Student's Corner: pathetique first movement by guidofellini
Hi everyone !

I'm currently working on Beethoven's sonata no.8 (Pathetique) Op. 13.  I have some trouble in the crossing hands section of the first movement. How shall execute the mordents (or are they trills ?) For instance, lets' have a look at bar 57 :

Shall I play the principal note before the auxiliary note and play like this : g a g f f g f e

Or like this : a g f g f e

Or are they trills ?

I have listened to several recordings, but I couldn't really say what they play. They do it really fast.

Sorry for my english, I'm not a native speaker.

Thanks in advance.
Performance: pathetique rondo by guidofellini
Hi, everybody. I'm working on the sonata no.8 (Pathétique) by Beethoven, (Opus 13). In the third movement, at bar 18, it is written "sfp". What does it mean ? I know that "fp" is for "fortepiano", but what is the S for ? Thanks in advance.
Student's Corner: left hand Pathetique by guardia73
I can't understand the left hand in "Allegro di molto e con brio".
Listening to the music there's no variation but looking to the sheet it seems that the left hand gets slower (4 notes instead of 8).
Is there anyone who can help me on this issue

Performance: Beethoven sonata op13 pathetique. How to play Grave by dora96
I am learning the pathetique, my Russian teacher taught me not to use pedal with Grave only on the ff. I found that it is so hard to play the left hand with chord. How to play it light enough and legato enough and not making like a marching sound.  I am worried why most people play with pedal. She said Beethoven and mozart hardly use pedal only very little in some parts of the song.  I don't want to augry with her but how to play without using pedal not making the song harsh and dry. Is there anyone taught not using the pedal ?
Student's Corner: help with beethoven by shrew
I,m learning  sonata C, pathetique op 13 and am having problems with fingering. I used to have lessons to gRADE one when young and reasently decided to start again.
Can  anyone give some advise on this?

I have been running out of streach in the left hand and think maybe i need to use the right hand for some notes in the bass cleff.  I am quite frazzled with this one but do wish to continue to play and learn it.

I reasently finished moonlight sonata.
Student's Corner: Beethoven's Pathétique Sonata by rex
I am a beginner, and suddenly I wanted to play Beethoven's Pathétique Sonata. Unfortunatelly there are some symbols I can not completely understand, like the weird w-like symbol on the third page of the Sonata. The first symbol of this kind appears on top of a G flat, on the first line, of the third page. I think this means that I am supposed to play A flat along with the G flat, but I am not really sure. Could somebody, please, help me deducing what this symbol means? I will be very grateful for someone to help me.
Sheet music Requests: Alkan and Beethoven Op.13 by 0range

I'd be much obliged, thanks.
Audition Room: Beethoven - Pathetique Sonata Movt. 2 by tompilk
Hi all,
The Blackburn Symphony Orchestra came to our school and they played the following programme. Our school also arranged for 3 solos, one of which was me playing the 2nd movt. of Pathetique. I recorded it on a Digtal Dictaphone - the quality is OK, not fantastic.

Programme:
Suppe - Light Cavalry Overture
Bizet - L'Arlesienne Suite No. 1 (nos 1, 3 and 4) and Suite 2 (nos 3 and 4)
Litolff - Scherzo from Concerto Symphonique No. 4 (Soloist: Daniel Holding - NOT ME!)
Elgar - Serenade for strings
Tchaikovsky - fantasy Overture from Romeo and Juliet

Solo items from QEGS:
- Me - Beethoven Pathetique Sonata Movt. 2
- Lucy Midgely - Trumpet arrangement of Chorus of the Hebrew Slaves
- Phillip Rowbottom - Singing two songs (can't remember names)

Hope you enjoy it.
It's the local amateur orchestra in which our music teacher plays. The piano is really stiff, as some of you may remember me moaning about before, so see if you can hear the soloist get a nasty shock when he starts the Concerto Symphonique! He mustn't have had a rehearsal on it...

Mainly I just want feedback on my playing as I find it immensely difficult to get the right tempo for this piece.
I've also included just my playing as an attachment for people who do not want to hear the rest of the concert.
Thanks,
Tom
