question Moonlight vs. The Tempest
April 16, 2008, 02:06:10 AM by sakhmet

Ok, I have this competition coming up in seven months and I am unsure as to what sonata to learn.  I have to learn either the first or last movement of one sonata and its a toss up between the third movement of The Tempest or the third movement of Moonlight Sonata.  Which do you think is a better show piece?
The rest of my pieces are Heroique Polonaise by Chopin, Etude Tableaux Op 33 no 6 by Rachmaninoff, Prelude and Fugue in C Minor from the first Well Tempered Clavier by Bach, and there is a toss up between the first movement of BB 88 Bartok Sonata or Etude op 18 - 1 by Bartok.  I would really appreciate your opinion! WHich sonata do you think would compliment this regimen the most?

xx "Tempest" 3rd movement
October 22, 2007, 04:48:19 PM by eric9

I would rank this movement as one of my favorites of all the Beethoven sonata movements and would love to learn it.  Just how difficult is it?  I am now finishing up the Elegie Op. 2#3 by Rachmaninoff, I have learned the Pathetique 1st movement in the past, working on Schumann's Papillons and Chopin's C# minor waltz.  I'm a working adult, mainly pracitice on weekends.  Do you think the Tempest 3rd is too much of an undertaking?  Thanks for your input.

xx Beethoven- "Tempest Sonata" Third Movement
April 23, 2007, 01:29:14 AM by grtful4dead

Hey.  I played this at a recital this year (I could not attach the whole sonata).  I am a junior in college and going to be auditioning for grad schools next year.  I plan on using the same sonata, and I have till probably December 2007 to work on it.  Any comments would be appreciated, also anything as to the level of school I should be looking at.  I hope to major in piano performance.

As I've added Schumann (Abegg) and Chopin (Nocturne) from a recital last fall, I also want to share with you my favourite piece from the concert, Beethoven's "tempest"-sonata, op. 31 no.2. Feedback is most welcome!

July 25, 2006, 08:22:30 PM by sevencircles

What are the greatest recordings of the following Beethoven sonatas in your opinion.

Pathetique

no. 17 "Der Sturm"

Moonlight

No. 30

I havel listened to Brendelīs and Schabelīs recordings but I find them a bit overrated.
