xx Revolutionary Etude in 2 Years
November 18, 2008, 12:12:44 AM by revolutionaryetudein2

Hi, sorry if this is in the wrong subforum; I'm new here.

So... I've been amusical my whole life and recently (that is, starting a couple years ago), I've had an urge to learn to play the piano. I just think it would be tons of fun. But I don't work well without concrete goals, so... I've taken it upon myself to learn to play the Revolutionary Etude over a timeframe of 2 years.

By this, I don't mean that I'm going to practice one piece all the time for 2 years. I would like to be all-around good at piano playing.

I've bought a digital piano for about a grand (I don't want to have to deal with tuning, and I'm a student, so I'll probably be moving a lot), and I have a teacher who I see on a semi-regular schedule. So this is something that I'm taking seriously (I have a tendency to start a lot of projects and not follow through).

Anyway, I've set up a blog to document my progress: http://revolutionaryetudein2years.wordpress.com/ I record videos with the webcam on my laptop and I upload them to youtube. Pardon the audio quality; I haven't really figured out how to record audio nicely yet.

Please share any comments or criticism you have, and advice on what I should be doing to achieve my goal. Thanks!

List of all my videos:

Week 3: Prelude 1-1 in C Major from Bach's WTC

Week 4: Menuett in G from the Anna Magdalena Notebook

Week 7: The Entertainer (easy arrangement from the Alfred book)

Week 9: When You Wish Upon a Star (from Disney's Pinocchio)

Week 11: Impertinence, by Handel

I have heard it many many times and i decided to try it.
Im wondering: On a scale from 1 to 10, how hard is it? Undecided
Is there anything you need to pay attention to in the piece? Tongue
How fast do you think you could manage to get trough the piece? Roll Eyes
Are there any other etudes that you would recomend? Wink

I started to study it 1 day ago and so far ive done 1 and a half page.

xx Op. 10 No. 8 vs. Op. 10 No. 12
August 23, 2008, 07:32:38 PM by conforza

Why is Chopin's Etude Op. 10 No. 8 considered more difficult than the Revolutionary Etude? Yes, in the 8th the right hand must move more and farther than the left hand does in the 12th but in the 8th the left hand's melody is rather simple compared to the right hand's melody in the 12th. Why is it that No. 12 is constantly labeled "one of the easier etudes" yet it is approximately the same speed and, in my opinion, the same technical demand?

xx Revolutionary Etude
February 22, 2008, 01:28:26 AM by jlmap

Hello,
I'm working on this piece for a long time. I can play it, but not well. The notes are not clear. I tried everything I can. Some parts I think I managed to overcome. But som parts are still preatty bad. I'd like to share my experiences with you, and to have your impressions too.

For example, the first part of the piece (A) I think the best way to study is to play very lightly the notes. I used to practice it almost without making any sound. I also like to play some parts of it with flat fingers, specialy the descending notes. This way I can make every note sound clear.

The second part (B) I can't play in a decent way. Do you have any suggestion? I tried to study it slowly and articulating the fingers, but it didn't work well.

The third part (A') is not much different from the first (A).

The coda is not very difficult. I found usefull to study it slowly and articulating the fingers.

xx Chopin- Revolutionary Etude
October 26, 2007, 02:43:52 AM by forzaitalia250

My first posted recording... It's not all that good, and the quality of the recording is lacking (I just used a half-working computer mic)

The song isn't perfect and the dynamics were difficult to achieve with the mic I used...

Anyway I'm doing a Spanish project on Chopin and I just needed to record something quick and I figured I might as well post it here since I made it...

Any thoughts/criticisms welcome

xx Revolutionary Etude: Why the name?
May 29, 2006, 01:53:13 PM by ail

Hi all,

I'm curious to know why is this Etude called Revolutionary. Not that I play it, but I'd like to someday, and one thing I like is to know something about a piece before I learn it.  Unfortunately I never find enough information in the net about the pieces I want, so I simply decided to ask here.

Ail
