Hi there, I'm new to this site, and I thought I'd post a couple of my Piano videos from YouTube. I'm really sorry about the quality of the vids, but I couldn't get anything better than my mobile phone to record on. I will try and get better recordings though =)

I'm learning Debussy's Arabesque 1 and am having a hard time with the triplet phrases in the right hand over the eights in the left hand. I can't make them even. I've tried practicing them really slow but that doesn't help.
Please help - if I can't even practice them effectively I'm not sure if I can even do it. Any suggestions, techniques? |
| Sheesh, i recorded this over a year ago, about the same time that i started playing the piano again, it's not to bad so comments are welcome. |
Hello, I am going to do grade 8 exam in the autumn, and would appreciate comments on this. NB In particular, is the pedaling ok - given that this piece should be transparent I am not sure if I am using too much. Comments on other aspects welcomed also of course. Richard

I have been working on the piece Arabesque by Debussy.
I have only got the first page done, but I would like some feedback on how it sounds so far.
I know I slipped up a bit near the end.
Keep In mind, I am recording with a cheap mic, and a horrid upright piano.
Thanks

I just recently started trying to learn the song arabesque by Debussy.
I noticed that there are no pedal markings whatsoever on the music.
A lot of people say that if that music says not to pedal, do not pedal, but in the recording i have I hear a lot of pedaling going on.
What do you say to this?
Should I pedal in the song or not? |
Okay guys and gals, bear with me. I'm posting this again because for the most part, I was disappointed with my previous posting of this piece. It is now about 1 month later. All memorized. My finger facility is improved and I'm a lot happier with this "recording."
Perhaps you can make comparisons to my previous postings of this piece. I'm actually going to play this in a masterclass coming up.
Still no real lessons, but a lot of chatting with all you wonderful people on the piano forum/street. That being said, okay now rip this playing apart. I'm getting closer to committing to lessons soon.
This is the second posting of this piece played by me on my Steinway B. And Recorded on my really hard to use PS04 Zoom walkman recorder. |
My first piano was the Yamaha P-200 electronic piano. Now I have a steinway (going on 4 weeks now). It's surprising how different the touch and action.
You can hear me struggling with the P-200 on this file.
Look for my other thread with the 3AM playing on my steinway of the same piece so you can compare the tonal qualities..
I love piano!!!! Just getting started. Thanks to all for inspiration. I have a lot to learn. I don't have a piano teacher (yet). But I'm learning from you. Please write me some criticisms.
My own criticisms of this Yamaha p-200 playing.
Some notes are brought out too loud - trouble with the action/touch - very different than the steinway.
Of course there are missed notes. |
Okay... I have a first performance on my piano (in almost 25 years) to try "today" at 2pm. I've been practicing this thing all night. Finally got it memorized.
Here's what I have so far, memorized.
Debussy Arabesque #1 (take one.. first time I've memorized it and recorded it.)
Jane, Thanks for posting this first... it inspired me to play it. That's the only reason I downloaded the sheet music from the internet (sheet music archive - no fingerings). So thank you very much Jane. I actually never remembered hearing this piece before (ignorant violinist before).
Any comments welcome.
