Audition Room: Scraibin: Etude op 8 no 12... feedback appreciated :) by lelle
Hi, Pianostreet community!
I am a guy who is fifteen years old, and who has recently discovered a new composer: Scriabin. My teacher saw my interest and we got started on this piece...

This morning I did a quick recording of how I play it at the moment. I know that it is not very good quality, a few misses, and I didn't think the build-up to the climax was good enough either, among other things. But tell me what you think! Both positive and negative comments are wellcome, as long as they are constructive :)

Thanks for any replies ;)
Student's Corner: Studying Scriabin Etude op 8 No 12... advice? by lelle
Hi all!
This is my first post; I am new to the forums. It seems like a great place!

I am a guy who turned fifteen in january, and I've been playing the piano since I was nine, when suddenly the interest came out of nowhere.

So, two weeks ago my teacher told me I could begin practice on this Scriabin etude after I told her I wanted to play it, and since I have been ill I haven't had any lessons since then. So I have been practicing this piece for over two weeks now without any supervision (sorry if the English is strange, I don't always find the right words^^) and the next lesson still feels like it's far off in the future... :P

What are the most common "newbie" mistakes on this piece? Is there something extra important one should think about when practicing this?

This is my progress so far:
about two thirds of the piece memorized (the beginning with the "theme" until the piece shifts to F#major and piano instead of forte (and then F#m7) where memory begins to fail, and the part where the "theme" is restated together with lots of rapid chords).
I stick to a slow tempo, I don't want to rush and make many mistakes and get bad technique because of that I haven't practised slowly. I do use the pedal.

I have both practised hands together and separate at different tempos. After each practising "session" or what you call it I let my self go and play through the piece once, only focusing on enjoying myself (means forfortissimo molto on climax among other things ^^), as a reward for practising :P

If it sounds like I've forgotten something important or that I'm practising in the wrong way, do please tell! Any tips or anything are welcome, this is such a difficult piece, but a fantastic one too, and I feel really motivated to work on it!

That is, if anyone came this far in this huge wall of text... ::)

Repertoire: Scriabin's Opus 8/12 by lohshuhan
can anyone who has played this tell me how they approached the left hand part?

i'm referring specifically to notes like the 4th note (A#) of the 2nd bar, and the 4th note of the 4th bar (B), where Scriabin writes those notes in the range of where your right hand would be playing.

do you take those notes in the right hand, or do you attempt to leap the left hand over?

i was taking it in the right hand, until a friend of mine commented that if you cheat on etude, then its not an etude anymore.
Audition Room: My First Audition Post-Scriabin Etude No12 Op.8 by c0nfused
Hi everybody,

I recently got a copy of the recording of a small concert I participated in last year, and since it was the first time to have myself recorded live, I thought to post something here. The sound is not really good, the piano was not good(...) and I am not sure if I was any good either. But, you know, it's my first recording, I am happy about it... :)

Anyway, any comments and suggestions would be appreciated.
Audition Room: Scriabin Etude Op.8 No. 12 by faj
I'm not supposed to post this since Jlh just posting his great performance of this piece.
But I don't have much time and need feedback to find good direction for my preparation of this piece.

Thanks in advance, Faj

Audition Room: Scriabin plays Etude in d# minor Op.8 #12 by arensky
The composer plays his most famous work on a Welte Mignon roll from 1912 or 1913, recorded on a Steinway "D" grand via a Welte Vorsetzer in 1963. Fascinating...

Click here for more detailed info about Welte Mignon and to hear more rolls including Scriabin playing the Poem Op.32#1.
