xx Re: Alexei Grynyuk - the Octave Marvel

Ok, I don't actually care about who is the fastest octave player in the world, but i saw this topic and Argerich immediately came to my mind. I don't know if she is any faster, maybe you should count notes in slow motion so that we can get the octaves per second rate.. Anyway here are 2 videos of her playing:

xx Tchaikovsky piano concerto - your opinion please
March 19, 2008, 01:46:30 PM by franz_

Hi,

Does anyone played this concerto here?
I have the impression that it is difficult, but technically not SO difficult, for sure if you compare it to other great romantic concertos. Am I right or wrong?

Any suggestions, ideas, difficulties,... on this concerto?

xx Most "un-virtuosic" recording of Tchaikovsky Piano Concerto
September 11, 2006, 10:46:25 AM by bradley

Hey

I've been auditiong this piece alot, trying to perform it somewhere, but to no avail. I recently, however, saw a performance of it and was DISGUSTED at what the performer did  Sad She completely murdered it (I'm sure I actually saw the piano bleeding at one stage), I mean she even stood up for the 1st chord.

So I've decided to go to the other extreme and redo my interpretation. I want to sound completely different. Which recording is in your opinion "un-virtuosic", in the sense that the tempi are not excessively fast, no thumping, MUSICAL playing. The best I can come up with is the Richter recording on DGG...

Thanks
Bradley

xx Tchaikovsky piano concerto - first piano chords
May 22, 2006, 10:31:54 AM by jason2711

Hi, this isn't really a question about how to play it, more what to play.  Having just started learning this concerto I'm a little confused about the chords from bar 6 onwards.  Should the right hand part of the chord on the first beat be an octave lower as well (ie, just above the left hand, rather than more than an octave separating the two hands)?

Just a little ambigious to me, there are times such as bar 12, 13, 17-19 which would suggest it isn't played down, but it seems a little irregular...

Any help from those who know the answer to my dilemna would be greatly appreciated Smiley

xx Rachmaninov Second Concerto Ripped off of Tchaikovsky First
April 25, 2006, 11:07:07 AM by michael_langlois

Has anyone heard this?  My piano teacher, a composer, suggested this idea to me while I was learning the Tchaikovsky.  He says that Rachmaninov even acknowledged that he stole his ideas for the Second Concerto from Tchaikovsky's first.  Is this true, or is it still within the realm of music being built off of other music over time?

hi

I've just begun Tchaikowsky's first piano concerto, and I'm wondering whether the first (piano) bass chord is 8va bassa or 8va alta ?
