xx Chopin Nocturne op.9 no.1

Here is my twin playing an old chopin favourite. Unfortunately, I didn't realize he was recording, hence the talking from me, and evil looks from him. Apologies too for the overly 'artistic' camerawork of the g/f. Anyway, block all that out and try to enjoy.

xx What is your story of Chopin Op. 9 N1?
August 28, 2007, 02:26:44 AM by laurent1234

Hello,

First let me say that I am trying to get back to piano after a 16 years pause. I have read what people here write about methods to understand pieces faster. Posts from Bernhard and Chang's online book encouraged me to try the methods they advocate.

I want to be able to see through the Chopin Op.9 #1, and need your help:)
If I understand correctly people memorize pieces better when they use associations, and once they have enough association to write something that looks like a story then the piece is easier to practice and harder to forget.

What is your story of the piece I mentioned above? I found it hard to see how the key would help me understand the chords that are used in the piece, but maybe I have too little understanding of horminzation techniques and your feedback would be appreciated.

>>> I hope somebody will share his story,
kind regards
laurent

xx learning chopin nocturne op9 no1
January 27, 2007, 06:34:24 PM by ant2006

Hi all,
Started to learn this piece a few weeks ago, im learning it a section at a time HS then HT.
I can play the fist section pretty well up to the point where u have to play 11 notes RH and the 6 LH then 22 RH 12LH, i realise that the LH just plays at relatively the same speed but im struggling to do that whilst playing the RH.
Basically i need to sort my head out on how to play both hands together on this section as one hand tends to follow the speed of the other.
Does anyone know of any good ways to practice this? either through pieces or excercises.
Thanks.

xx two chopin etudes and a nocturne
October 26, 2006, 01:31:40 AM by le_poete_mourant

Here's a couple cuts from a live session last month.  Ingle Auditorium.  Baldwin Concert Grand.  My modest attempt at these wonderful pieces of music: Etude Op. 10 No. 4 and Op. 25 No. 6; Nocturne Op. 9 No. 1 in B-flat minor.    Hope you like.

xx Chopin Op 9 No 1
October 10, 2006, 05:41:30 AM by steve jones

Hi all,

I started this piece two days ago, and Im really liking it. Everything seems to be coming together great.

Except for one stumbling block!

Im having serious problems coordinating the two hands in bar 2 and 3. I can play HS no problem, but the clashing rhythms of 11 against 6 is causing me all sorts of issues.

Any suggestions for this? Right now Im just playing the bass note and then continuing  Embarrassed

Thanks for all and any help,

SJ

Hi,

This is Chopin's Nocturne No.1 in Bb minor.  This recording isn't perfect, with some note slips.  Anyways, please listen and critique!

xx Op 9 No 1 Chopin
June 05, 2005, 08:01:31 AM by Jorgen

I am teaching myself to play the piano for three years now and I have a problem with Op 9 No 1 by Chopin. I searched the net for pianists performing this song resulting in:

www.jorgenhorstink.nl/chopin/Op_9_No_1_Arthur_Rubinstein.mp3
www.jorgenhorstink.nl/chopin/Op_9_No_1_Brian_Chapman.mp3
www.jorgenhorstink.nl/chopin/Op_9_No_1_Sviatoslav_Richter.mp3

They all play it differently. So my question is: are all three performances good ones?

Secondly I'd like some comments on my own performance, since teaching yourself is hardly impossible.
