My teacher says that i play the first Octaves too softly when i play the first section of this etude. when i try to play it any louder, he says that i'm banging it. The problem with it is that while he does demonstrate it to me (With a great tone quality) he doesnt tell me how to do it. Does anyone here know how to play it with a full tone?
In the second section he keeps saying that i don't play musical enough. the problem with my teacher is that he expects you to do the technique on your own, similar to Liszt who said: "Wash your dirty linen at home) while he teaches you on the art of interpretation.
I think that the Octave etude is harder than it looks/sounds. |
Hi,
i am working on perfecting my Chopin Ballade in g-minor and am still struggling to get those octave runs in the middle section up to speed. I think my octave technique needs serious polishing. Would you please suggest good octave etudes. What about Chopin 25-10? |
Here is a copy of my recording I just made yesterday for the the Montreal Symphony Orchestra Competition. I will be competiting in the Piano B class (17 yrs and under). If anyone else is competiting in this, I would love to hear what you have sent in!

Thanks in advance! |
Firstly, what kind of pedalling should one use in the octave etude? Too much seems to blur the hell out of the piece and too little makes it sound staccato or not forceful enough.
And secondly, following the introduction (the first two lines or whatever), as soon as the main theme kicks in, are you supposed to hold down the middle notes in each hand or just play them for the first octave? It seems impossible to actually hold them down while octave-ing at a rapid speed. |
Before I do something irreversible like injuring hands, is there something I should know about this piece? From technical aspects, I mean. Also, does anyone have any tips for this piece?
Thanks. |
