I have tried many pieces of quite taxing piano music, but one with which I've failed miserably is Liszt's Feux Follets, from the Transcendental Studies. It just never seems to have anything like the light and airy texture that master pianists can give it.

So, any clues to what the knack is to unlock its secrets?

P.S. I agree it might be "too difficult" for me, whatever that may mean...

Hi

I've decided to do feux follets for a bit of fun in my free time.

Ok.  I have no idea how to get this piece done.

1.  How do you practice it/coordinate it - for example,  after a zillion demi-semiquavers at the beginning the left hand comes in.  my hand comes in ussually one early or one late.  If it were the same but semi quavers I could do it - but it's not,  so how do I practice this part?

2.  Alternating sixths about the second page,  at sempre legato.  I can do it,  but not at the speed that's required,  and when I do it hurts my wrist because my arm muscle tighten like mad,  and my brain can't coordinate the 31 41 31 51 (rh)  movement.

In summary, the piece is just totally overwhelming when you try to sight read it.  All i'm looking for is some tips from those who have played the piece...
