How difficult is this mouvement? Technically... ? In half a year my school will do auditions to play 10min. with orchestra, and I would like to give this a try. What do you guys think? |
Hello everybody!
I know that a lot of people think that Rachmaninoff #2 is an overrated piece because so many people have played and recorded it. But the thing is... I never played it! :)
So, I would like to know your feedback about what you think is the best way to study this piece in a way to get it ready in 3 months. (any methods for difficult technique slots, ways to subdivide the piece in order to study by bites, or anything you could suggest in a way to help me, etc).
I already played the Paganini Rhapsody, and a lot of etudes and preludes so, I am familiar with this style. But still, 2#concerto brings new challenges.
Any ideas or suggestions will be welcomed and very appreciated! :)
best, |
hey what do you guys think of this concerto?? This concerto is my all-time-favourite!! :D But it looks very difficult. :-\
What about the people with small hands? Are thay able to play this concerto? ??? |
For those of you who have learnt Rachmaninoff's Piano Concerto in c minor No.2, How hard is it actually compared to the rest of Rachmaninoff's Piano Concertos? Do you think that it's more do'able for someone with small hands? How much harder is it then Beethoven's Concertos, Schumann's Concertos?
Any opinions or advice welcome. Thanks! |
...with 2nd piano.

Thcaikovsky: Richter, Argerich, Olga Kern, Pletnev...?
Rachmaninov: Richter, Kissin, Hough, Ashkenazy...? |
What is the correct version of the Rach 2`s openinig chords? To 'arpeggio' it like Ashkenazy or to play it 'blocked' like Richter/ Van Cliburn? Wat do you guys prefer?
I hate it when people arpeggio it to fit the size of their small hands! If you have small hands, don`t try Rachmaninov`s second concerto!
What do you think? |
Here comes the first movement, recorded it today with my teacher on 2nd piano.

| I played this with the Knoxville Youth Symphony last May, my senior year in high school. I made some obvious mistakes, and the orchestra and I weren't always together, but I'm just happy I made it through it. |
| Has anyone heard this? My piano teacher, a composer, suggested this idea to me while I was learning the Tchaikovsky. He says that Rachmaninov even acknowledged that he stole his ideas for the Second Concerto from Tchaikovsky's first. Is this true, or is it still within the realm of music being built off of other music over time? |
