Schmitt - Piano Music

Aloys Schmitt

Aloys Schmitt (1788-1866) was mainly known for his exercises and etudes. French pianist Charles-Louis Hanon copied Schmitt’s work when he penned his own book of exercises. Even though this was common practice in the days before Byzantine copyright laws, it still bears mentioning that Schmitt, who labored in obscurity in Munich much of his life, was one of the pillars of piano pedagogy in the 19th century.
