Müller - Piano Music

August Eberhard Müller (1767-1817) was a German organist, keyboard player and flautist. He was organist at the Nikolaikirche, Leipzig, and first flautist in the Gewandhaus orchestra. His wife Elisabeth Catherina Rabert played regularly with the orchestra as a soloist in Mozart´s piano concertos. In 1810 he left Leipzig to become musical director of the Weimar court orchestra and court opera, where he managed to raise the standards signicantly and was praised by Goethe. The starting-point for his compositions was Mozart, whose influence is predominant in the early works. But the later piano capriccios and variations sometimes show developments in piano technique approaching those of Liszt. Müller published a guide to Mozart´s keyboard concertos and tutors for the flute and keyboard that had a great influence in his lifetime. Beethoven wrote to the editor Breitkopf that he held Müller in high esteem.
