Oesten - Piano Music

Theodor Oesten (1813-1870) learned to play various wind and string instruments from Politzki, Stadtmusicus of Furstenwald, a small town between Berlin and Frankfurt-an-der-Oder. From the age of nineteen he studied composition in Berlin.
Oesten is best known for his easy to play piano compositions, including transcriptions of operatic works. In 1843 he had great success with his rondo for piano called "Les premieres Violettes" - this was followed by a host of similar pieces. Oesten was in great demand as a music teacher. His son Max also became a composer.
