A big thank you to Nils for getting the licence to post more recent music. 

I had this big urge to recording something on my new equipment when I woke up today.  I hadn't practiced this piece in a while and wanted to see how it sounds today.  I really love the many different sounds that can be produced, and that very different interpretations of the same piece can seem equally plausable. 

This one is done with my new interface - Edirol UA-25.  The gains on this one are quite sensitive and to prevent clipping they were set at about 2.5 or so.  I'm not sure how this affected the dynamic range, because sections that sounded loud in performance did not have the same relative intensity in the recording.  The mics were placed about 4 feet from the strings pointing down on them and positioned around the imaginary arc surrounding the piano.  Some of the high notes, I found to be a bit "too clean" with not enough resonance. 

Any comments on both the music and recording technique much appreciated.

Great recording.  Where did you record this?  Did you add any effects?  How much did your mics and your interface cost?  The sound is amazing.

I am assuming that you must be Canadian.  During my undergrad I played the Scenes from a Jade Terrace.  Louie is a fantastic composer.

I recorded this at home.  It's been about a year since I got the C3 and I thought it would be good to get some decent recording equipment to capture its wonderful sound. 

No effects were added, what you're hearing is the natural sound from the mics.  I did add some minimal limiting to bring down the really big peaks, then normalize to 0dB to increase the dynamic range. 

I got all my equipment from Long and McQuade. 
Studio Projects B1 are about $120 CAN each
Edirol UA-25 is around $290 CAN

And also, is this piece easier than the Prokofiev Tocatta?  I want to play either for my performance Arct, but the Tocatta isn't looking too good...
