Has anyone here played Schubert, Impromptu in A-flat op. 142?
« on: October 25, 2005, 08:50:17 PM »

Hey everyone!
I'm 15 and i've been playing the piano for 18 months now, i'm trying the above stated piece and wondered if anyone had played it before and has any tips? Its going really well but the fingering could improve and theres alot of areas to work on - I could benefit from some peoples experience!
I've already got it on mp3 but if anyone's posted it on here I'd love to hear their interpretation
Take care xxx

Is that particularly relevant?
And why, is being a Catholic..or gay....."unacceptable" in 2005? We've movedo n a bit since Sodom and Gomorrah, radmc

Well I just think its different that your Catholic and Gay. After all, the Catholic religion is like the complete opposite of homosexuality. <--I've read about many instances of this; like all of the accounts of the Catholic church burning men or women they considered to be evil, or translated in to today, different. But don't get me wrong, I support homosexuality 90%! Besides, they need some diversity...

Anyway, about that impromptu,

in those patterns of 16th notes at the beginning, make sure you are not accenting the thumb, but practice slightly accenting the beat instead.

Try leaving out the first note (or just playing it by itself), and then playing the next four notes in a group, the next four in a group, etc..  quickly.  Stop on the fourth note of each group.

da         da da da da         da da da da           da da da da

this teaches your position changes to be smooth.

Other than that, make sure to shape each one of those arpeggios to whatever mood it seems to give.  Each one of those is diffferent; this will make your playing much more beautiful.

Make sure to listen to the left hand, and know where it has the melodies, and bring them out.

Thanks very much, that was brilliant advice, I will put it into practise - I'm hoping to use it for a RCM application! Thanks again, God bless
Ps - randmc - I agree with you actually! Being gay and Catholic is almost oxymoronic!
