Hey guys i recieved a notice about replys to this post. I haven t been on here in a long time.

Things have been ok with me. Ive been working hard as ever at piano. Listein im considering doing some things and i would like to know what yall think about them.

1. I can auditon and get in Juilliard this December
2. I can wait a year and train finish some of the goals that i made before Juilliard and auditon the following December.

The reason im considering takeing th year to train is that i personally feel that im gonna get in to Juilliard but my problem is that im not good enough to be able to stay in. And i dont want that at all. There is SO MUCH that i wish to get done. Im not a very good sight reader. And it takes me at least a month to learn 5 or 6 piecies. So im trying to learn more faster. This is something that im thinking about.

THE QUESTION IS
GO TO JUILLIARD?
OR TRAIN FOR A YEAR THEN GO TO JUILLIARD??

They accept you based on if you are good enough to stay in. Do you seriously belive you'll get in? Won't be problem is the bit I like! As if getting in to Juliard isn't hard at all! The pieces you were practicing last time you mentioned it were nowhere near the standered expected for conservatoires. They are highly competitive, they let in very few students, and if you doubt your good enough to stay in, they'll not even consider you. Conservatoires take on students who are of a very high standered at the time of entry, considering you audition in december, thats 1/2 a year before term starts, they will expect you to be of a high level at audition, and even higher at point of entry.

How many Chopin etudes you done? That always comes up in auditions, and you can bet they'll expect a lot of them! What concerto's have you done? They expect to see some big ones. Plus you cannot guarantee that you will play well in the audition! Even if you do 12 hours a day, your only human, and can mess up. What happens if they don't like your playing? What happens if theres people better than you auditioning? What happens if they don't like you as a person? You considered any of that? Where else you auditioning?  You cannot predict anything about audition outcomes, anything can happen on the day, and tiny things can really put you off on the day and spoil your performance.

3. train 2 years and see if you can get into a better school rather than taking the first option?

Well, if Juilliard is such a sure thing why not just go for Curtis?: after all it's free, even more prestigious than Juilliard, and they'll give ya a Steinway Grand of your own to practice on while you're a student there?.... Tongue

Super5james has a super "10" program. You've got music of different eras, contrast, and top quality selections. Great choices!

Rectials for me today compared to then look like

Beethoven Sonatas- Moonlight, Pathquie, and Appassionata

Chopin- Preldues "Complete" , Nocturnes Bb minor, Eb Major, C#minor, Db Major, C#minor posth, C minor, Ballade No. 1

Schubert Impromtus OPP 90, and 142

Liszt- Libestraume 1-3, Funerailles, Un Sosprio, Mephito Waltz No. 1, Concerto 1 Eb Major, La Campellna, and Spanish Rhapsody

Prokeifv- Toctta in D minor.

Now i do admit that now that i am older than when i first started this topic all of my practise really wasnt necessary. I still practise 40 hours a week but im covering alot of things since ive been doing a lot of accompaning so theres alot of work for to do.

I aslo need to expand my rep. and my pieces. I plan on compeiteing in some major competitons in the next few years and the stuff i do now will not be enough.

40 hours a week, still?  Shocked

That's not much of an increase in repertoire considering the amount of time since the start of this thread. I smell a rat.

Give me 40 hours a week, I'd have passed Grade 9 by now.

Why all this talk, post recordings of all the piece you can play right now and we'll tell you if you're ready to audition for Julliard or if you should double your practice efforts. Grin
