OK, so I'm practising Debussy's 7th prelude. Not too bad so far, but in the middle starts that section with repeated notes (like C in LH alternating with D in RH) that have to be staccato and moderately fast, and then some melody notes kick in...

I'm having trouble figure out which is the best motion to get this right at tempo. If I use finger motion only, no way I can get it to speed, if I use wrist bouncing, I am not even and it gets messy. Forearm staccato (like pedalling kind of movement) is what gives me the best control, but I get tired really soon if I do it fast...

Anybody has played that part ? Any suggestion ? Thanks.

just replied to another thread - as debussy is a mystery to play for me, too.

try talking with charles timbrell  at charlestimbrell@aol.com  or charlestimbrell@howard.edu

he also gives masterclasses when asked.  he sounds very knowledgeable about debussy.  i've done a little snooping like this with some mozart experts and they actually wrote me back.
