There's 2 main sheet music stores - that's AU$40.  For some reason, the edition is freeking expensive.

Awesome! Thanks for giving a heads up on the deal. I think I'll have to get that.

(I jest, I jest. Don't hurt yourself by jumping too quickly on a newbie to explain the piece.  Grin  I will say though that I learned this piece quicker than any other.  Wink)

Greetings.

This piece might be a prelude to the Vexations by Erik Satie. Perhaps some similar concepts.

 "People who bought
John Cage: 4' 33"
also bought: (etc etc)"

My dear lord it is copyrighted! I did some googling and found that a fellow by the name of Mike Batt was sued for including a track of 1 minutes silence on a CD. Look at http://www.mfiles.co.uk/composers/Mike-Batt.htm and
http://www.brandnamebullies.com/excerpts.html

Batt said "My silence is original silence, not a quotation from his silence. Mine is a much better silent piece. I have been able to say in one minute what Cage could only say in four minutes and 33 seconds."

The case was settled outside of court and Batt donated a six figure sum to charity.

Which sounds dumb as many composers had little seconds of silence in their songs... so technically the composers should claim copyright....

Any of you looking for a laugh should also see this....

http://www.bbc.co.uk/worldservice/arts/highlights/010911_cage.shtml

I declare John Cage an idiot... someone who shouldn't get a single cent for copyrighting silence.

ASLSP can't be performed that way. if they want, the first chord should be held for a year before playing the next chord, which requires another year to hold on  to that chord. or else there will be unwanted and really long rests in between chords/notes.

haha, just thought i'd comment on this.Smiley

ASLSP is being played right now, and the next 500 years or so. Lets hope the world ends before it finishes. What a total waste of an organ. I hope the people of Halberstadt claim back their organ before the world ends.

Yes, this just shows how stupid copyrighting is and like the article says, it is probably a stupid marketing stunt for both parties to get even more cash while doing nothing.

I don't know if John Cage is an idiot but he never did anything for music and he does have an idiotic quote about Schoenberg.

John Cage is a fake rebel, that's quite pretentious.
