I recently found a TAPE recording of me playing this scherzo at a competition when I was 15 years old.  I made an mp3 of the tape and thought I'd share it with you all here.

This was made nearly 10 years ago, and I'd been playing for 4.5 years at that point.

Enjoy -- there are a few finger slips, and listening to it now is ...um... interesting, but I think there are still some very good parts in it.

What do you think?

lol thanks for sharing!  Cheesy

There were some very nice moments in it! I felt that it got better towards the end, guess you were nervous when you started. Wink

Wondering how you got the cassette to mp3- does that require special equipment?

I did a line out from my stereo cassette player to the mic input on my laptop, then recorded in real time.

After hearing Miss Texas play this "sherzow", I figured you all might like to hear what this might sound like if it were played a bit more sanely...  so I went looking for my recording.  Grin

I also played this scherzo when I was 15 years old (9 years exercise) and I really loved it because I think that nobody ever wrote like Chopin. I won a competition but unfortunately I have no recording.

For all people who have not played this scherzo, Play it!!! Grin

It`s really worth playing.

I enjoyed this flashback. Smiley

I think, too, that there are some really good moments.
This Sk-air-tzo is quite a piece.

3:03-3:08  Wild and spooky effect, especially right at the end here.  And
then in the same part later on.  I think it's very good.  What do you think?

wow.  you have a good interpretation, too.  who cares about finger slips.  this is very mature playing anyways.  and very precise (to my careless ears).  maybe just a little bit too much silence between the phrases that suddenly move up (don't know measure numbers).  but, hey, chopin is always hard because there are no breaks.  it's almost as if he wants the player super-human.

i like how you 'lead-in' to things. sometimes you can take your time getting to the top notes - but when people are young - they are in a hurry to get to the tonal sounding areas.  actually, what i was more recently taught is to take your time on the dissonance and treat it as if it is a nice dessert by itself - and then when the harmonies follow - it's extra special.

the beautiful nocturnish part in the middle is so lovely!
