My favorite would have to be Chasse-Neige - has anyone heard Kissin's recording? His is my favorite. Everyone else seems to lack "moto."

Also - Cziffra's Mazeppa without pedal - fantastic!

mine too, actually TE 10 and GE10 are sufficiently different to warrant playing both, and i love them equally, no11 is close behind.

the coupling of 10 and 11 is , as i have said before, like hell and heaven, back to back...with 12 possiblt being a true atheistic non-existant afterlife, with winds blowing around nothingnes,s mildly

Leslie Howard has recorded it as part of his "complete" Liszt.

I also have an old tape by Janice Weber, which to me is slightly preferable.

I am not aware that any of the "big guns" have recorded any.

Most pianists seem to leave them alone.

Actually, it just depends on my mood/the mood I want to get in. So it would be no. 3 and no. 11 for calm, no. 6 for satisfaction and grandeur, no. 8 for anger, no. 10 for just awe and exhileration, no. 12 for loneliness, desperation and all these very sociable emotions.

But overally, no. 10 wins.

Most played? Probably Mazeppa.

Most impressive ending? That's harder to say... TE no. 11 has a gorgeous ending, but not WOW, more like OOOH. TE no. 2 has a dramatic ending... TE no. 6 is WOW almost all the way through. But possibly the most WOW TE is no. 12... When I last saw it played, almost the whole audience had their jaws dropped throughout the whole etude and for quite some time afterwards...
