Schumann- Faschingsswank aus Wien
« on: July 23, 2006, 10:11:45 AM »

Just wondering what kind of level this is because I am thinking of playing the first movement for the DipAbrsm exam.

I have sight-read the said movement, and don't really find it so difficult i am put off... but if someone was to turn round and say "don't do it, it's more LRSM than DipAbrsm"... i could see where they were coming from.

The last part is the hardest. This is a great work, i recomend the recroding by Murray Perahia

The masterpiece tell the performer what to do, and not the performer telling the piece what it should be like, or the cocomposer what he ought to have composed.

I am working on this as well also. The first 3 movements are pretty easy, the 4th is probaly the most musically difficult. The last movement is a technical stickler though, its pretty tough.

do you think i would be allowed to do it for my dipABRSM then? (just mvt 1) i find it a lot easier and musically satisfying than the other Schumann pieces on the actual list (phantasiestucke mvt 1 and 2 /novelette 1 /romance 3)

The last 2 movements (especially the last) get bloody hard if you play them fast enough. It should scorch with virtuosity a la Richter.
