I'm trying to learn this waltz, but I have some questions. When I listen to the waltz in a recording, it's very legato, and very smooth, but in the music, there are no pedal markings, especially on the first page. How can I make it sound legato when there are no pedal markings? To any of you that have learned/played this piece, what did you do as far as pedalling?
Just because a piece has no pedal markings does not mean you should abstain from pedalling unless the composer specifically wrote 'senza pedale'
When I learned this waltz, I used a little bit of pedal to ease the legato in the LH at the beginning, and basically many short pedals in many of the other sections- the only one which was mostly free of pedal, if I recall correctly, was the recurring C-major section.
