It's beautiful.

Musical and soothing. A true expression indeed.

Hi, Pianowolfi.  I must say that I enjoy this improv very much.  I have listened to it several times in a row by now and each time I listen, I have a distinct feeling of never wanting it to end.

My overall impression is pretty ethereal, in that, your improv in this higher register and particular style of playing reminds me of communing with higher spheres.  And, I wonder, did you feel this during your time of improvising ?

I absolutely *love* the moment at 1:57 with the deceptive cadence and then a moving forward following it.  And then, 2:39, where you have reached a lower register than ever before and you reach a new mood as well.  It is as though your thoughts have gone a bit earthward and in this phase, one wonders if perhaps the beauty of the ethers may fade away, but then, we return to the higher levels to close.

It's beautiful.  Thank you for sharing this.

May I ask... what caused you to title this improv as "sympathy" ?

Thanks,
Mayla

Thank you for your very encouraging words! Well, I'll try to answer your question Smiley. There is a short time, 3 minutes, where I was able to play something like this. Many stories in my life seem to come together in this tiny point of time, come together at once.  But to give a sense to all of these stories there was needed more. There is a person who caused me to begin to see many of these stories of my life, and many other (mainly musical) aspects in my life in a new sight. At least I feel and think so currently. What I feel is overwhelming sympathy to that person. And i wanted to express this sympathy with my music. But that is only one side of the coin. The other is the little motif e-a-b-a which is the starting point of this improv (in the middle voice at the beginning) I wondered if I could make up a piece of music on a name and I tried it. So this little improv came into existence.  Smiley

Hi Pianowolfi,
That was really nice. You need to write it down. Proportion is something I always seem to notice in improves. You took a long time to get from the high register down to below mid range and to me this was very effective.  Also, increases in tension seem to occur mostly from low to high frequencies with increase in volume and tempo. Yours went the other direction and built up a lot of suspense with variation in texture and complexity. You seemed a little hesitant at times about how far you wanted to continue the line in the R.H.  If you write it down you will have the luxury of editing.  I admire your creativity. Write it down.
Thanks for sharing,

Hi pianowolfi,

I really enjoyed this improvisation.  It ambles, but with a sense of purpose.  Very beautiful!  Its style is hard to categorize exactly--perhaps a synthesis of minimalism and neo-romanticism with a modern dash of dissonance.  Taken as a whole, the genre is not unlike a reverie in its effect.  You're very creative!

Thank you rachfan! You make me proud. I didn't know that I have made up so many ...isms in that piece  Grin Mainly all is feeling for me and I don't think about stylistic features. But if they are there and even classifiable.. so much the better!  Smiley
