Da Nobis Pacem - Composition
«

Hi
This is an "edited improv" I have made up on the words "Da nobis pacem domine" which means "Lord give us peace". I know at least one other composition on this. That is a vocal work by Mendelssohn. But this one is piano only
It will be the opening piece in my program with my own works. Some parts in this piece i don't write down because I'd like to play them always with a bit or more of improvising ( for instance at ca 3. 00 in the recording.)
I hope you will like it

i can definately hear the choral idea there. i like the voicing! now - you need a sort of accompaniment to go with the first part like you did for the second (sort of schubertish).
i could hear this sung and played.

"Da nobis pacem domine" which means "Lord give us peace"
Your first word here almost makes it sound (albeit unwittingly, I'm sure) as though it's something expressed in "Da SDC lingo" (not that I claim to understand fact number one about that "tongue"); the phrase is
Dona nobis pacem
- i.e. "dona" = "give".
Best,
Alistair

Ah DA great Mister Hinton comments MY composition? No what a disappointment! Just to correct my latin though comest this way
But let me see if I can convince you that I am right after all:
Da nobis pacem, Domine,
da pacem perdurare ;
Nam nullus est qui valide
pro nobis possit stare,
Quam tu, nostra spes et salus.
Martin Luther
I have also the sheet of the composition by Mendelssohn and even Bach wrote a choral on "Da nobis pacem" No wonder as he was a huge Luther fan. "Da" is actually the same as "dona", it's a short form like "gimme" "Gimme peace please"
http://perso.orange.fr/choraledemonton/cantatepaix.htm
And Pianistimo, thanks for listening and commenting!
Though I am not sure what you mean with accompaniment in the second part?

OK - I stand (or rather sit) corrected; fair comment - and, by the way, I am neither "great" nor was I commenting upon your composition (which I have not heard)
per se
. The phrase still has something of the appearance of a piece of SDC lingo, though, does it not?! (albeit by pure - or perhaps impure - coincidence only, naturally...).
Maybe the "peace" thus "given" is the kind that would result from the smoking of the peace pipe that "pianistimo" advocated in a recent post in another thread ("just kidding!", as she herself would say...)
Best,
Alistair

LOL this is funny! Da pacem, da peace, da peace
and da fury hehe
. A combination of church latin and sdc talk. Yep. I love playing on words.
Any more comments?

Thank you! That makes me think of even adding a few more dissonances
