[On Michelangeli as teacher]
Well, I was one year and a half with him, and I had four lessons. It's not much. Once he said to David Ruben from Steinway, "Oh, I've done a lot for that girl." And David said, "But Maestro I know that you gave her only four lessons." And he said, "Yes, but I taught her the music of silence." It's all very mysterious. (Laughter) Martha Argerich

This is the most hilarious thread I've ever seen.  HILARIOUS!  Very clever.......Martha was indeed so sexy....  I have a video of her playing in the year 1977.  That's when I was born.  She was so hot back then.  I do think she was too wild to teach......she had one famous teacher she never obeyed.....started with an S.

But also, Arturo may have given her so few lessons simply because she was talented enough to extrapolate entire worlds from just a little information.  And also because he saw her talent and knew that teaching a unique talent is like cooking a small fish--you spoil it with too much poking.  I suppose that's related to the other issue as well.

Thalberg, i know that you are looking for a job. guess what, i got one for you. I reckon you'll be an amazing chairman in the security department of our spa. If you have time, do visit our spa thread in the anything but piano category and consider applying for the job. All the very best,

Spa manager,

Vincenzo Scaramuzza, I think, and not as undisciplined as you would expect, particularly in light of the enormous lattitude of Scaramuzza's teaching.  Baremboim, Bruno Gelber and Nelson Freire also came from his attelier, so he must have had something.
