I played my pieces for the federation (Brahms 118-2 and MacD Witch's Dance.)

He (the judge) was very impressed and spoke with me for a long time afterwards.

He suggested doing 118-2 in 6/4 instead of 3/4.  He gave me further tips for all of Brahms 118 and 119 ( ???).  He said that my phrasing and intellectual control was very Brahmsian and that I ought to play the B minor Rhapsody, not the popular G minor.

He went on to say that I could do "Gnomenreigen" like no one's business, that I could do Sonetto 104 of Petrarch, or even any of Liszt's Etudes D'Execution Transcendante.  - That surprised me.

He then criticized me for going into a field besides music  ;D ;D ;D. 

I was chosen for the recital that afternoon.
