Rachmaninoff Prelude in B Flat - Op. 23 Nr. 2
« on: April 14, 2007, 02:50:12 AM »

I have a question about Rachmaninoff's Prelude in B Flat, Op. 23 Nr. 2.

The question regards measure 25.  All musical logic leads me to believe the A4 in the middle of the second beat should be flatted.  All other As in the measure are flatted.

I assume it's just a typo in my edition, or perhaps even an error on Rachmananoff's part, but I thought I'd mention it here to see what others and their editions have to say.

Thanks,
Trazom

Possibly just a typo. Obviously it should be an octave in a-flats here.

Yeah, it's a typo. My score has it too, where the top A is flatted but the bottom one is not. Probably just an oversight by the editor.  Smiley

Thanks for your replies.

Yeah, it's pretty obvious the A should be flatted.  I can tend to be a bit of an obsessive perfectionist with this sort of stuff, so just wanted to get a second opinion (it comforts me, lol).

Thanks again.

Indeed, it would sound very strange if well established octave pattern would get broken with one stupid overlooked A natural  Roll Eyes.

Since we are on printing errors, there is one mistake in prelude op3no2, where for some unexplainable reason most Western editions in m.6 L.H. 2nd beat have D natural  Huh Huh Huh

It should be D# octave.
