Rachmaninoff prelude 23 nr 5
« on: April 15, 2007, 07:05:04 PM »

Hi. I've played the piano for almost 7   years, should I be able to learn this piece ?
I don't have any teachers and have used a long time practise on this piece, have just learned one page and it sounds crappy. Is it stupit of me to practice on this piece if it is very dificult?

Um. Could you perhaps give us a hint as to what you've played so far? Even better, a recording of yourself? Then we might actually have some real basis to build advice on.  Wink

if you want to learn it, learn it. it doesn't matter if it's too difficult for you, by learning pieces to the best of your ability you'll always develop. if it is too tough for you to bring off a good performance of it, make sure you easier pieces too which are well inside your ability level. that way you'll stretch yourself technically but also be able to express yourself musically.
i always believe people should learn what inspires them, otherwise it's not good learning.

I've been playing for 7 years, i play this piece and much harder stuff. so you PROBALY could play it, but peoples ability levels arent always the same; therefore i agree with pianogeek

Okay, I don't have the time now to make an analysis of the recording for you, but here's a thread that might provide material for some time: http://www.pianostreet.com/smf/index.php/topic,20334.msg229840.html#msg229840

I'll get back to you later.
