rachmaninoffs octaves

i listened to a recording of rachmaninoff playing chopins 3rd scherzo and his octaves are INSANLY fast.

A question re Rachmaninoff's recording of the Chopin Scherzo No. 3 in C-sharp Minor. Is this a studio recording or a piano roll transfer?

The fact that it's a studio recording is irrelevant because Rachmaninoff recorded in the days before editing.

Incidentally, Rachmaninoff supposedly said towards the end of his life that he regretted playing as fast as he did. He said that it was the one aspect of his playing in which he over-indulged, and he felt that the music suffered.
