Hi, I'm playing the Chopin Ballade in G minor right now (in the midst of learning :p) and I just ordered the book of his 24 preludes... I've browsed through them at random before, just wanted to know if his 'tougher' ones, namely the Bb minor and such, are on par with the G minor ballade?  I want to learn the really impressive, short preludes, but really dunno what they're on a level with...

no 19 is the hardest , a lot harder than the ballade. i think it's in E flat major?

all the rest are easier than the ballade

Well, that's subjective.

To me, Nos. 24, 8 and 16 are on par with the Eb major one.

I don't know how they compare to the ballade, however.

Lol I'm not too worried about musicality, I [think] I know what I'm doin Tongue  The ballade isn't bad.

I mean raw technique... like for example take the coda of the Ballade, I can play it but it took me a long ass time to get it right.  Do the preludes compare to that in terms of "repeat repeat repeat, can't get it right" kinda technique.

I'm going to be honest about this- I have not played any of the above preludes. In fact, I have not seriously studied any of the preludes.

However, my teacher has played the entire set, and I know 3 other people (college students) who DO play the above- one of them plays the entire set, actually. Their general concensus is that the Bb minor is the hardest of the set to pull off.

Ok, would they go as far as saying that the technique behind that prelude is more to handle than the various techniques found in the G minor ballade?

That I cannot tell you, as my teacher will be out of town for a week and a half. Also, I would have to check if any of the others play the Ballade.  Smiley

definately. but the Eb major prelude for me is bloody hard technically. so is 12!!! 8 fits under the fingers perfectly.
