Which half of the piano do you prefer?

I find myself tending to be more comfortable on the left side of the piano. I'm sitting in the middle so it's not that. Just an observation.

If I have to choose, 'tis the lower end.
Bass notes are evidence of testicular fortitude, surely.

I like a booming bass note. however when palying with rock n roll bands, you can't go past the top end (coz it's the only place you get heard!)

If I had to choose, I love the brilliant treble part.
My yammie u3's treble just has the word 'brillianto' carved on it

I prefer the middle notes because very low and very high notes are for decoration, but the notes of the middle register carry the substance of the music. (Polyphony in extreme deep or high registers isn't audible)

why do we have to choose, bob? i thought pianists chose the piano because of the fact it has such a wide range. now, to be limited. yikes. i say - everything or nothing.

It's kind of like saying which foot do you prefer to walk with.
I like the variety of range the piano provides. But I would rather have the bass part if playing a duet or some 2 piano work. Then when you get to preform the piece on a nice piano you really get into the bass.

My favorite key on the piano is the lowest A on a normal piano. Even if it was a Bosendorfer and it went down to a lower C, A would still be my favorite. I'm not sure why.

Tone clusters sound better on the lower half, haha. That's one reason why I prefer it. That, and it just has a more powerful, supportive sound.

I just feel more comfortable with my left hand all the way down to the bass. My right hand just doesn't feel right on the high end.
Thinking about the halves some more, I must say I also like the top half of the piano much more than the bottom half. (Actually some truth there. I wish they would finish the bottoms of grand pianos and not just leave raw wood like that.)

High range, because of the tarantella from Passeggiata Veneziana

Thinking back, there was a time where I never really used the high end of the piano, and even disliked playing there because it was so far away from where you sit. Then I heard Messiaen and what wonderful things you can do in the high range - what a life changing experience
