move elsewhere if this is the wrong board to as this

but basically a couple of pieces im doing for my undergrad auditions i dont actually have my own copy of the music for- im using copies ive gotten from the internet

so my question is do they usually ask for the music to follow when you are playing?

ive just been thinking that as you have to play from memory you dont need to take the music with you

I don't think it would hurt to have the music available.  I wasn't asked though.  I did have the music with me just in case.

As long as it's legal, I don't see anything wrong with the internet music.

Of course, you create an impression with the music you bring.  If you've got such-and-such edition and have a reason for it, that will look ok, esp if they agree with the edition choice.

And if they're old farts and don't know what the internet is, they might look down on the internet copies, regardless of the quality.

If I were you, I'd buy a standard paper edition and have it ready for the audition.  Just by offering them the score, you show you're prepared for that day.  If they ask why you picked that edition, have a reason ready.  There are lots of recommendations for editions on here.

How much money is it really for the music compared with the option of deciding whether to attend that school once they offer?  It's an easy thing to buy, that kind of security for the audition.

I would go with a legal copy too.  You don't know if one of the adjudicators is touchy with copyright issues.

I remember back to auditioning for undergrad.  One school asked for 3 copies each score, so I went to do some photocopying.  I handed them originals and they never asked for the additional copies.

I was only asked once for music at a college audition.  All other schools I offered music to and they refused.  I think if you're using standard repertoire then the judges generally know them so well they don't need to follow a score.
