Anyone any ideas  on the best technique to play this piece on the piano. I have tried  starting with the right hand at the middle C position and the left playing the bass part an octave lower.

However I have seen this piece performed by Grigory Sokolov and he plays both hands in the same octave, moving his hands at the 'speed of light'. Angela Hewitt and Alexandre Tharaud have also both made recordings but I've no visual of their respective keyboard techniques.

The piece was, I believe, written by Couperin for the double manual harpsichord which would explain the ambiguity and complexity of the written score.

Looking over old threads this evening. I can't believe nobody responded to this. It is possible to play this piece on the piano in the same register and the charm depends totally on it's being played this way.

Hewitt and tharaud both play in the same register. It's difficult, but worth it.

I'm playing it right now.  It is difficult, but i play it in the same register.  Angela Hewitt does not, and transposes the r.h and octave up, but that defeats the whole point of the piece.  If you have any useful tips, please pass along.  Going to perform it soon, and am worried about the repeated notes....
