Cedric Tiberghien...OMG WTH!?!?!?

Just got back from Tiberghien's Sydney recital. He performed:
Bach/Brahms Chaconne from Partita no. 2 for solo violin
Brahms 4 Ballades op. 10
Chopin 4 Ballades
I'll reserve my judgement on his performance, but I did clap on and wish for an encore. He gave one alright...
Before giving the encores, he reasoned that he's been telling stories through the Brahms and Chopin. So he said he'd tell some more. There are 3 pieces in the encore; one tells the story about a sea urchin, the next with a tolling bell, and the last a ghost story...
...!!! Who does he think he is!? Horowitz!??

...word has it that he's told the stage manager he's gonna do that...but he went on and did it anyway...
...the concert itself was fine - Brahms 4 was rather monotonous, tone-colour wise, while 1 was a highlight. But...you just don't encore with THE WHOLE GASPARD!!!! YOU JUST DON'T!!! IT'S WRONG!!
...in retrospect, I didn't quite like the way he played the main program, and the Gaspard turned out to be the best program he played on the night, but still...
IT'S RIDICULOUS!!...or is it? Sorry, I just felt like venting this somewhere...I mean, what's the longest encore you've all had?

You definitely got your money's worth, as pita bread put it.
On the flipside, however, it seems odd to me to eat a full dinner, then have the dessert cake served with the meat and potatoes as the icing on the cake... you already ate the meat and potatoes, now it's time for the icing!

Since when is there a rule as to what you encore with?
Serkin used to encore with the 'appassionata'.
What's the problem? as said, you got more than your money's worth! I wouldn't be complaining.
