Thirds...

I realized now that the camera is not showing Shan-shan when she is really playing the thirds...I'm thinking of putting up that passage in slow-motion with the camera following her hands. The thirds are VERY fast, and in both hands...

are the thirds together or a sort of rocking thirds?  i loved this duo.  i'm just wondering why so much movement in the air, though?  don't you have more opportunity to lose your spot?  also, what about coming down from such a distance and causing 'key slap?'  the hardest you can get the hammers to perform is basically your limit on any piano.

i like, however, the energy that you pull with the piece and from each other.   if you were both not to know that anyone was watching - and performed this piece much closer to the keys - i'd the sound quality better (lacking extraneous noises and unwanted harmonics - unless you wanted those harmonics).

but, this is very picky and probably very rude of me to say.  sorry!  it's just that when you post on a forum -you're bound to get critical review sometimes.  it's not like we're the basic audience that's going 'oh, look - they can play thirds.'  it's sound quality, too.

***I LOVED IT!  the cossack ride was definately a cossack ride!

I agree!

I can't believe this post has been almost totally ignored.  These pianists are fabulous.  The Waxman piece is great fun . . . if you don't die of fright playing it, of course.
Current repertoire:  "Come to Jesus" (in whole-notes)
