that is very beautiful! somehow i'd like to hear the melody that you bring out slightly softer. also, less exact phrasing for each phrase. more of a continous phrasing until the end of a page or so. but, it sounds very beautiful anyways!

Hi pianistiom, yes it is a beautiful prelude. BTW what is the difference between exact phrasing and continous phrasing, for some reason no phrase marking are given by the composer. Anyway tanx for the comment, ciao.

as i understand it -to be unpredictable in phrasing makes people wait for what you are going to do instead of expect it. you know, how some people play schubert and brahms - you just expect a lot of short phrases with slight pauses. whereas - others sort of connect this phrasing and you feel 'pushed' by some hidden momentum. like something in the wind or water. then, when you actually do take a minor pause - it sounds timely.

Hi zheer,
I had never heard Siloti's paraphrase before. Thanks for posting it. It is a nice piece, and you play it well. I especially like your layering of sound, keeping accompaniment figuration more in background than the slow moving melody. One question though: You seem to make heavy use of the damper pedal. (I realize your intent is to sustain the melodic notes.) But generally in Bach we use pedal very sparingly. Or maybe I'm hearing the accoustical reverb of a very "live" room or hall? Could you please comment on that aspect? Nice job!
Thanks.

Very beautiful and soulful but overpedaled and unfocused. The RH 16ths are never really in sync with the LH melody and the rhythm is generally unstable; there's too much rubato but I can hear what you're aiming for; keep after it!
If you can tame the rubato and clear the pedal without sacrificing the shape of your phrasing and the tone color (both of which are excellent) you will have a beautiful and unique interpretation of some truly sublime music.
I play this a lot, plan to record it soon. I discovered it surfing youtube one night, I stumbled on Cziffra1980's vid. Then I heard lutenist Paul O'Dette play it in recital. This an amazing piece and you play it beautifully, you just need to tighten it up.

Hi rachfan thanks for you encouraging comment.
You mention pedal, yes nothing to do with accoustic reverb ,and like you said the damper pedal was in use to sustain and contrast the melodic line with the accompaniment. However though it is bach it is still a prelude by siloti,so this music would have been written in a different era.
Hi arensky glad to hear from you where have you been
.
Thanks for your comments and yes recently purchased a metronome my playing is always unfocused and unstable rhythmically. BTW i must find those clips on youtube by cziffra and O'Dette.Ciao

I saw O'Dette play it live, but there are clips of him playing lute and baroque guitar on Youtube. He's really great, imo.

Apparently it's from Clavierbuchlein for W.F.Bach, BWV 855a.
Nice playing!
