"The Great Gate" from Mussorgsky's Pictures at an Exhibition - large leaps
«

I am having trouble with the short appoggiaturas (leaping from the appoggiatura to the main chord) in measures 18-29 and 162-169 of "The Great Gate" from Pictures at an Exhibition. Also, the large leaps of both hands in opposite directions in m. 89-106 and 114-161.
I know these sections hands separate, but I am having trouble joining hands without missing half the notes because I watch where one hand lands but not the other. I try it at a slow tempo, but even then I can't seem to get it.
Any suggestions for how to execute these large leaps? Any help is much appreciated!

I recommend Liszt's Exercise for Leaps in Contrary Motion, from the Technical Exercises. I believe it's in the second volume of the three, each volume bearing 12 books.

i know its an old thread. did you get it alrite by now? yes, the leaps are ultra hard and unpianistic. this is what i did: i rewrote the coda. yes, and now it works way better and even has much more grandeur, and more satisfying effects.
