Well, as promised, i'm keeping everyone updated about my competition.

Just finished off my non-competitive class yestesday and competitive class on Weds.
I won 3rd place for my competitive class (mini-recital) with a mark on 84%.

Bach- Partita no.2 in c minor (sinfonia): 86
The judge said that my intro was a little too loud, told me that the double dotted notes should be played in the style of a french overture.
Adagio: good tone, he asked me to avoid making to much of a crescendo before the 1st cadence. Prepare the final chord more gradually.
Fugato: good tempo, though it was a little to heavy going on the 3rd page. Tone was a little on the heavy side, to think of it more as a dance and seperate the 2 parts a little better.

Haydn- Sonata in E flat major XVI/49: 85
I- some initial emphasis on the downbeats, consider how the 1st 2 measures can be joined. More careful shaping needed. Be careful with the pedal, enjoy the imitation at the beginning of the development.
Organise the cadenza.
III- too much emphasis on the downbeats inially, listen to how each phrase is sung. Remember that a minuet is a dance in small steps.

Chopin- Etude in F major Op.10 No.8: 82
working to hard, find a way to relax your arms so that you don't get too tired.
for this one, I got a little to nervous so I ended up using too much energy for the 1st 4 pages and had too little energy for the last 2 pages.

For the non-competive class I played Beethoven Sonata in A major op.2 no.2 (1st&3rd) and Rachmaninoff Prelude in g sharp minor op.32 no.12.
The judge loved the beginning of my Beethoven sonata, thought it was very strong and grand. Made a few mistakes for the 1st one/2 runs because of my cold hands and my L.H was a little too strong. Was asked to make my staccoto chords even more detached. Be careful not to pedal too much. Scherzo: breathe before minor section, end slured notes properly.
She loved my Rachmaninoff Prelude, thought that the beginning was beautiful. Asked me to ignore the p/dim.. for the 1st page so that I can bring out my L.H more. Change pedal a little more cleanly. use una corda for the last few measures.
