Beethoven Op. 2 No. 1 - How to use the pedal?
«

Hi all together
I just practice the first movement of Beethovens first piano sonata and I wonder how I should use the pedal. Sometimes I think it would be nice to use it but I'm not sure how. Has anybody some advice for me?
Thank you very much and merry X-mas

Hi opus 57
I use the pedal mostly only to connect chord resolutions and octaves which I can't play fully legato with my fingers, for instance for the octaves in m. 18-20, for the chords in m. 47-48, the G
7
-c in m. 69 and in similar places. I use a bit of harmonic pedal in mm. 73-79 and some pedal to make a fuller sound in the staccato chords at the end, rising the pedal at the same time as the fingers.
Hope this helps
