Scarlatti: Sonata K450
« on: December 31, 2007, 12:02:15 AM »

One of my new ones for the year.. I heard it here http://youtube.com/watch?v=EKfJGNtMczM

It's very interesting. I love the use of ornamentation. Here's my first question. This video shows her playing the mordant before the note..almost like a grace note. I kinda like the effect and I was just wondering how correct it was.

The piece sounds so clear and easy...but it's already driving me nuts Sad

I also have a concern about my piano...The resistance is kinda heavy compared to other pianos I have used...will this mess me up in the long run? Does it make performing from piano to piano harder?

edit:
So as I'm learning, it seems that to play the mordant as written is more challenging and has a different feel.

I'm having some trouble at measure 10. The fingerings of '243' for the mordants is difficult. It's almost impossible to get to a consistent level on my piano. It's a little better on the school pianos though. Couldn't I just use '2'354'  or '2'454' instead?

Edit:
Its allright, I worked through it. Using the original fingering, I realized that my hand has to sort of 'rest' on the thumb while it plays its note in order for the mordant fingers to be free to work quickly enough. The fourth finger also must be parallel to the key (in general), so I had to make sure that was happening.
