Haydn Sonata in E flat major hob:49 2nd movement
«

Hi, my teacher decided to let me use this whole sonata for an upcoming competition so I had to finish off this movement after taking a break from it since march with only the notes learnt. I just recorded it, made a few mistakes and my apologies for that.
Enjoy!

Watch the attack of the very first notes of the piece ... it was not in sync and I think you could achieve a better tone by syncing it ... plus it doesn't really start the movement with the energy to let you flow the rest. I think your playing lacked motion/direction. I would try to listen to yourself more, because your tone is a bit harsh. Try playing with longer fingers and do more finger legato, because I definately can hear a clear percussive articulation on every note, wich is not appropriate. For the second part, the accompaniment is definitely WAY too articulated, it does not feel nor as an accompaniment, nor as an arpeggio. It feels like a series of unrelated notes that you put on the front of your sound plan. Move your arms and wrists and use your elbow, forget about the articulation work you did when learning the notes. The melody should be more on top and legato. Your main problem is that you can't make the piano sing, you ruin your tone with finger articulation on every note. Watch the structure of the piece too. That's what you should work for your competition, adding musicality to the notes that you allready have quite learned well. Overall very good job and clear playing/pedalling. Allmost there!

thank you, I will take note of those faults. When I listened to my recording it just seemed like I was'nt a 100% focused and sometimes concentrated too much on other things etc. However when I played it at someone's house this evening, it sounded so different when I really played with my heart.

Hey amelia
I'm that other guy who was supposed to learn the 1st and 2nd movement but never did (from the duels page)
I agree with thierry, the playing seems to lack movement or purpose. The turns are also a bit harsh.

yup, I agree with the 2 of you after listening to my recording. well i'll record it again in a couple of days with the 1st&3rd movements.
haha...I think everyone hates it when their playing sounds like that, especially me, I did'nt intend for it to turn out that way. Anyway i'm glad you understand.
it's like as if recording scares me, i'm always ok playing in front of a real crowd which is supposed to be scarier. LOL

Thank you for posting your performance. Now I can assess your piano playing ability.
I thought you have uploaded incorrect recording of yours. The first several notes in that recording really told ALOT about your musicality. I am sorry to blow your enthusiatic bubble, but I think somebody here needs to be honest with you. You may say that you did not perform well that day, but how could you cannot even tell that your performance is below par. If you did know that, why would you even uploaded and let everybody in the world hear your below par performance. Considering the amount of time that you spend to practice everyday and the result, if I were you, I really would reconsider the thought of going to a music school to study piano. Don't you even wonder why you did not get into the conservatory in Canada? You said that you entered competitions, have you ever won? I hope my post will take you to the reality of life....unless you want to be in the dreaming state for sometimes longer....Sooner or later, I believe you will wake up...

I'm listening to amelia's recording quite now, and I do not understand, what the other posters in this thread are talking about
It's a really good recording!!!
The main problem with it is the sound quality, which seems to be a problem with the microphone, but not of how the music is played. It could be perhaps a little more flowing (a tick faster, not much!), besides that it is played very good an accurate.
I doubt that the people who say it is not accurate have played the piece by themselves. I have and hence I know it very well.

It's the movement that makes the sound.

yes nyonyo, i am aware that my performance was below par.
how about this? you have only listened to this 1 recording of mine and you can't really critisize me not having heard me play in real life at all.
I know i'm capable of playing well, and I do have the talent, it just so happens that I really messed up this one time.
within these few weeks, the standard of my playing has gone up alot and my teacher said that she can hardly pick on this piece anymore, nor can she find much fault with it.
i'm just letting you know that i'm simply going to ignore what you said especially about the part of me not getting into the consevatory. in fact I am sure that I will get accepted this time, and the next time I reply to you will be when I have gotten in and I will prove it to you.
thanks to the rest of you for all of your encouragement and advice.

I don't know what to say to you, but that it is foolish to ignore sound advice, that your attitude needs some adjustment if you plan to succeed in conservatory, and that it is a good thing you are going to be changing teachers soon, as it is questionable at the very least that your teacher finds no fault with this Haydn. Nevertheless, it is a valiant effort and I hope to hear more recordings soon!
Best wishes,
ML

Amelia:
Pardon me if I appear technically challenged, but search as I may, I couldn't find the link to your recording - only to the pdf of the music itself. Did you remove it or is it hiding in an unusual corner of your posting? I'm always interested in listening to members efforts.

To be honest, I do not need to listen many of your recordings. You played long enough in that recording, not even one part of the recording that I can feel that you play with your heart. Making mistakes here and there or incorrect interpretation are not my concern, but the musicallity is. I honestly do not hear the musicality at all, it was totally empty.
http://youtube.com/watch?v=HzDzOl7omsE
Please listen to this boy...There were a lot of mistakes in his performance, but you can feel the musicallity of his playing.
I really recommend you to have somebody who is really competent to listen to your plaiying and ask that person to tell you the truth. Otherwise, you will waste your life in the lala world. You have to be brave to face the reality of life. There is time in life that you must make decision. The other thing that really concern me is that why you cannot even hear that the particular performance is not good. Logically, no one will let the whole world to listen to his or her below par performance. If you do not even have a good taste of music, it will be impossible to become a good pianist...
