Pedal has nothing to do with cheating. It's the purpose of the sustain pedal that you can hold a note (or several notes) and leave the finger from the key.  Smiley

There's no cheating in piano playing, if it sounds good you're doing good.
Suiting the voicing, the distances, the fingering and notes to leave out to suit you is a huge formal aspect of piano playing.

In Romantic and Impressionist music, the ties in chords are often a signal from the composer as to the intended pedal. As has already been mentioned, pedal for full harmonic support.

RH: so the CFC would be played by 125 in the first measure +

LF: AFC= 521

then i would press the pedal and play the f g, by the right hand , as indicated in the score. What about the 2nd sextuplet. ?

Id play it with 12315 and lift the pedal before playing the sixteenth d  ?

what would you say

Either use the pedal and make your life simple or use 5-5 for the first two notes in the left hand.

So 5 for the lowest note, then jump to the next note with 5. It's longer so there should be time in there for it.

This piece was only meant to be played by those with hands that can easily span a 15th.  If you can't span it - don't play it!  So if you can't play it, you are cheating.

You have to use pedal, or you need to get bigger hands. I can't offer any advice on this peice since im not that advanced.. But i have played a couple of Final Fantasy peices so i can offer this bit of advice: If you can't play it normally (if its not possible with bigger hands) then you'll have to use pedal. I had to use pedal on Via Purifico, Tidus's theme, The Final Battle, and The end theme from FFX.

Btw, whats that peice? Is it The Final Battle from Final Fantasy X?

What is written implies the use of both hands.

In this situation, you are making the faulty assumption that:
1. treble clef = right hand
2. bass cleff = left hand

This is wrong.  Any teacher who teaches this is misguided because it can and will mean that many pieces in the literature become impossible to play like the piece in question.
