Charles Ives: Studies & Variations on America
«

Ives was a real revolutionary who predated most of the people who tried similar techniques. He is one of the most original American voices and was a fine pianist.
Who is familiar with these pieces? I don't know if there is any good recording of the extant set. Any recommendations?
Might the America variations be a good encore?
Regards,
Daniel

For us musicians, the music of Beethoven is the pillar of fire and cloud of mist which guided the Israelites through the desert. (Roughly quoted, Franz Liszt.)

hey dnephi!
ives is the man, i really love his music. i hope someday i'll be able to play something by him.
maybe you may find this link useful:

i only did listen to the america variations live, and yes: it can work as an encore perfectly (although it was not an encore when i did listen to it).
