Rach op 3 no.2 ques
« on: January 16, 2008, 03:22:21 PM »

In the last page of the prelude, in the 9th and 11th bar from the end(sorry my score doesn't have bar no.s) in both hands there are C# octaves simultaneously with the chords an octave above and for each hand there is a square bracket connecting the two simultaneous chords. are they supposed to be played one after the other with a fast shift or is the marking an ossia marking? thanks

you can ask your page turner to help you a bit.

or you can antecipate the octaves and very quickly jump to the chords (that must be played on the beat). it's not an ossia btw.

ok thanks- so the chords(quavers) are on the main beat and the octaves are a sort of grace note, right? the jump i can work out with practice-just wasn't sure of what was intended.

yeap, you're right. that's a very romantic mannerism, but sounds so cool in that climax...
go practice the jump dude!
