Hi there everyone. This is my first post so I don't know if it's in the right spot. But, here goes. I'm a 15 year old piano student and I've just taken my grade 10 exam. I was PRETTY sure I failed but turns out, I got 64. I know that I'm supposed to get 75% and up on everything to take ARCT but I don't want to take it so would I still pass if I walk away with my 64?

I was really nervous about it and my piano teacher basically CRUSHED any self confidence I had by telling me I'd be embarrassing her to go to the exam. I totally messed up and thought I'd get like 40/100 but yeah. I hope for a quick reply. My heart is still beating and beating because I don't know whether I can take my mark as a pass or not. By the way, I took an exam from the RCMexaminations thing. & The "standings" told me to check my syallbus for my standings but I don't have it so thats why I'm asking here

Any teacher who demotivates a student for the sake of personal pride deserves to be embarrassed.  As a teacher myself, I say so without reservation.  Sounds like your teacher is blaming you for your inadequacies instead of trying to help you improve your playing. 

Grade 10, 60% is a pass. 

In order to qualify for ARCT you need either 75% overall or 70% in each section. 

In order to get a Grade 10 certificate you need:  Gr 10 piano, Gr 2 Rudiments, Gr 3 History, Gr 4 Harmony or Intermediate Keyboard Harmony, Gr 4 History.

as for the standings, here you go.

70 & below: 37%
70-80: 40%
80-90: 23%
90-100: 3%

don't worry about what you teacher said, you gave it your best shot, messed up a little but still you passed.

Oh my goodness thank you guys. It feels like a ton has been lifted off my back forever and ever and ever If I was a little bit more ecstatic, I would literally burn my piano books. But I won't. I like going back and playing my songs at times I've spent the past hour running aruodn the house screaming and cheering.

A positive spin on your experience - If you, as you put it, "totally messed up" but passed, the jury obviously saw something in your playing that shined through it all. You should take this as a confidence-building experience and an incentive to work all the harder to eliminate the "messing up" in the future.

do you intend to carry on with lessons? your teacher seems to be rather self-concious about his/her status, still though a teacher must be encouraging and supportive for a student to excel no matter what and it is usually their duty to help students meet their goals etc.

have you told your teacher? what does she/he feel about it?

are you at all for the idea of completing your ARCT exam someday?
