Horrific definitely would sound differently. I would suggest though that you play all the pp and p really pp and p. I like your tempo, often this piece is being played prestissimo instead of allegretto. Don't think so much of the single crotchet counts. Think more in phrases. For instance, lead the first descending arpeggio into the following quaver without "hicup" Smoothly, you know? This whole piece is so subtle, your tendency is to play it rather a slightly bit too strong. Let it flow and float, like little waterfalls, and in the B section like a little river, perhaps. Hope this helps.

I know what you mean, it just sounds harsh. You know how people say i hate the sound of my own voice, well i hate the sound of my own piano playing sometimes.
thanks, i will make those improvements, when i have the time.

Your piano has a really bright sound. I think it's near impossible to get into character with that temperament.

Other than totally ignoring all dynamic markings and making any attempt to make music out of this piece, an obvious misreading in meas: 35 & 37 - you added an extra arpeggio (4th beat) in each!. Your thread subject is accurate.

I don't think it really is that bad.  cygnusdei has a point, it may be the piano's overly bright tone which is preventing you from making those soft whispery sounds.  I've played on such instruments before, and everything sounds like brass instruments on cheap drugs.

Sounds like you play the piece with a metronome Wink
The funny thing is that you hardly do any wrong note, but that theres a complete lack of dynamics. Maybe you should listen to some recording and than compare it with yours.

good luck,

Cummon guys: someone puts a piece up for our review, prefacing it all with that fact that he was bored, calls it "horrific", and just wanted to "trash" Schubert; and some of you jump to his defense as "not that bad", suggest he listen to a recording to learn dynamics  Roll Eyes rather than read and observe them; and to top it off you suggest that perhaps it is the piano's fault!!! As for playing "hardly a wrong note", what do you call adding a 4th beat in two measures? Yes, other than that, basically accurate even if robotic. I can't tell if this was all a joke or not, but taken at face value, I'm mystified that someone could work hard enough to attain the technique to get through this piece without succumbing to at least a modicum of its charms and beauty. I have very little patience for those who purposely put less than their best efforts up for public scrutiny (and no that doesn't mean it has to be perfect).

Amen.  My first response at hearing the first 3 seconds was "yea, he's right- but why on earth did he post it?"

Thanks Daniel, it's always nice to get validation of one's posting. I think he posted it for the reasons he gave, he was bored and wanted to trash Schubert--strange as that may seem, I found it even stranger that some took it so seriously. Roll Eyes

You see i can play in time Tongue.
No i have learnt to never compare recordings, especially if the recording is pro, because for a start am not a pro, secondly the sound quality of a pro and amature is way too different.

  Thanks guys anyways.

Yes, I'm wondering too about the harsh critics.
In other recordings, the comments are mostly: too much rubato! too uneven!

Now here is a recording which has (almost) no rubato and is very even.

You see: you can play like you want - the guys will tell you in every case  it's incredibly bad  Roll Eyes   Cheesy

I actually told Zheer its technically good, but you must agree that he has a dynamics problem.
Maybe he just has a bad piano and its like impossible to do anything nice with the notes. But if he doesnt really know how to put good dynamics in his playing, he should either take a teacher or start comparing his recording with one of a pro.

So Zheer, please try to take this advice seriously, because i think its a pity that your good technique is being wasted by your way of playing Wink

Boy, there's a critique that could apply to several "professional" musicians on the circuit today  Roll Eyes
