Debussy Clair De Lune
« on: April 28, 2004, 07:04:32 AM »

Was just wondering if anyone else had real trouble getting to grips with the speed and complexity of the left hand.

It's a real pain in the ass!  Though such a great piece I am determined to see it through.

Well, I played the piece last fall, and I had the same problem. Play the left hand (slowly!!!) alone alot, and varying the rhythm (long-short-long, etc.) You can also 'block' the arpeggios, and look for chord patterns if your theory is good. Hope this helps

If you think Claire de Lune to be complicated, take a look at more French impressionist music... Perhaps Gaspard de la Nuit? or maybe romantic music like the Chopin Scherzi..... then come back and tell me what you think.

Amen! Clair De Lune is one of Debussy's more easier pieces. You people have lots of practicing to get done! Wink If you find Clair De Lune hard, you'll never get through the first page of the Toccata from Le Tombeau De Couperin or Jeux D'eau Tongue. Well anyways, Good Luck!

Hey.

I've played this piece a while ago - some months I think.

Try practice the left hand in piano or even pianissimo, in order to make it flow - that way, once you've practiced it you will get a much greather balance with the melody Cheesy

Good luck!
