Piece for Piano and Cello
«

Hi, can somebody recommend a piece for the piano and cello? I would prefer the piano part to be around grade 8, and it also has to be shorter than 5 minutes. My friend and I are considering playing together for a talent show at my school. Thanks. I would also prefer Romantic music, but any suggestions are welcome.

maybe a marcello sonata?
i played "12 Variations on a theme from Handel's Oratorio Judas Maccabaeus"
and i loved it =)
it is not short, but as they are 12 variations you can pick some.
enjoy them!!!!!

Rachmaninoff cellosonate, 3rd movement. Its one of the best, but its like 5.30 minutes
Saint saens allegro moderato is great too. Sounds more difficult than it is.
Schuman's fantasy for cello/clarinet and piano.
i did those pieces, theyre very nice.
good luck,

The cello and piano version of Rachmaninoff's Vocalise Op.34 No.14 is pretty wonderful.
Years ago I heard Caroline Worthington play it on her exquisite 1733 Montagnana.

Yes, the Rach Cello Sonata (3rd movement) would probably be the best. Although it is fairly thick writing for Grade 8, it's slow enough to be manageable, and very beautiful and popular too.
Good luck,
Sam

How about the first movement of Elliott Carter's Cello Sonata No. 1? It's not particularly taxing on either performer and would be entirely accessible to any audience member, and it's approximately 5 minutes long, if not just a tiny bit longer.
