I've been playing for about five months. Which piece is suitable for me to learn i.e. challenging but not impossible?

People can be in very different places after 5 months. What have you played so far? What sort of thing do you like - what style, etc?

Well, I'm almost finished with Chopin's Nocturne Op9 No2. I've also tried Burgmüller's La Candeur and L'Arabesque.
Although it seems to be too difficult for me, one of my favourite pieces is Rachmaninoff 's Prelude in G minor

I can't do the Rach piece, by the way. Just in case you misinterpreted what I said.

Definitely don't do the Rach piece yet. I tried it when I was at a stage slightly past where you are. I love the piece, but couldn't play it, it made my hands hurt, and it was stressing me out because I couldn't learn it.

I would say start with the basics. Bach for sure -- 2 and 3 part inventions. An easy Mozart sonata. Some of the simpler Chopin mazurkas and preludes.
But you don't have a teacher? Get one fast if you want to be any good!

I don't want to be rude, but people who are playing for 5 months can't play Chopin's 9-2. They can play the notes right, but that's it. First you must play simple etudes (not Chopin of course!), sonatines, simple sonates, Chopin's posthumus etc. to play that.
Many people on the forum play the fantasie-impromptu, campanella, moonlight sonata etc. very poorly and they are simple not ready for it. You can better play some simple and original pieces perfect! So don't play Rach's 23-5. It took me about 10 years and hundreds of pieces to play that piece right.
