What music might this be?
« on: May 04, 2008, 07:48:30 PM »

I was sight reading one of my old theory transcription exercises.  I love the music, it seems very familiar, but I can't place what it might be.  Does anyone recognize it?  I'll present in both the original open score and transcribed.  I assume it's in the middle of something, but there is  a recognizable theme:

It's the sarabande from the French Suite no. 1 in D minor BWV 812 by no one else than our JS Bach Cool .

Cool!  Is it for piano, then? (Revealing my ignorance)  Now I have to find it, of course.

Thx  Smiley  I love drawing the treble clef. Symbol of music: unpredictable perfect symetry along strange lines.

Aaah...I love this type of duty. Have you also been requested to transpose the score into different keys?

Do people still do that?  What did people use in the "good old days" before computers?  Ordinary pen?  Fountain pen with ink?

Fountain pens with ink (or quills if you are 500 years old). The 'dot' of the crotchets and made much faster as opposed to individually filling in the dots.

I guess at that point the type of paper makes a difference, because you don't want anything "leaky".  I don't know why, but I find it very relaxing and it even seems that I get more centred for practicing after hectic day.  Ok, I'm starting to sound strange.
